Like previous games, Pokémon Black & White features rivals that you'll face throughout the game. The rival covered within this page is the male childhood friend, Cheren. You willencounter him numerous times throughout the game and he'll usually give you some sort of advice as you travel through. He will pick the Starter Pokémon that is strong against yours and will battle you straight away in your home in Nuvema Town

After you have defeated both him & Bianca, you will begin your journey and meet up in Route 1. In Accumula Town, Cheren will also be there during the speech by Team Plasma and will leave soon afterwards.

The next encounter with Cheren is within Striaton City. Before you can get to the gym, you have to find Cheren within the Trainer School. He will ask you how your journey is going and will promptly challenge you to a battle

Once you have defeated him, Bianca will appear and will tell you that Team Plasma have stolen one of her Pokémon. When you chase them in the Opening of the Underground Water Vein, Cheren will join you in a double battle to defeat Team Plasma to try and get Bianca's Pokémon back. You'll then find him in the Tall Grass of Route 3 where he'll explain the functions of the tall grass

Afterwards, in Nacrene City, you'll encounter Cheren again where he'll tell you that he's heard rumblings of Team Plasma having a plan there. Later on, you'll also encounter him outside Castelia city Gym when Team Plasma have caused the Gym Leader to leave the gym.

The next battling encounter with Cheren is within Route 4 in the path upwards towards Nimbasa City from Castelia City. Once again, he will battle you straight away.

Following this, you will encounter Cheren once again on the other side of the Driftveil Drawbridge where you will both encounter Clay who will tell you that Team Plasma has taken up residence in thecity. He refuses to accept another battle from you until you defeat Team Plasma within the city. Go to the Cold Storage and he'll note that this is the last place to look so they must be in there

The next encounter with Cheren is on Route 7 as you approach the Twist Mountain. He will tell you that Team Plasma have been spotted nearby in the Dragonspiral Tower. He will challenge you as Alder appears to tell you to go through the Twist Mountain to Icirrus City.

The next encounter with Cheren is at the Dragonspiral Tower. He, along with Alder will assist you in fighting through and getting to Team Plasma. Once you've got through and seen N fly off on Reshiram/Zekrom, Cheren Alder and Bianca will talk to you about Team Plasma's plans.

After that, Alder and Cheren will leave to the Relic Castle. When you arrive there, Cheren will tell you that Alder has gone ahead and that he was surprised that you've managed to get through. Once you fight through the Relic Castle, he will meet you in Nacrene City with Bianca, Lenora and Alder.

After you have earned all 8 badges within Unova, you will encounter Cheren once more in Route 10 as you lead up to Victory Road. He will mention that he has earned all the badges and suggests yet another battle.

After defeating the Elite Four, Bianca & Cheren will arrive at your home to give you their congratulations. Cheren will head up to Route 5 afterwrds to train.

After meeting him at Route 5, Cheren will move up to the top floor of Victory Road where he will periodically battle you. This is the final battle you will have with Cheren.
