Route 4 is a desert route and doesn't feature grass but rather deep sand in which you can battle wild Pokémon. In addition to this, it has a road going over near the north with multiple vehicles. A factory also exists in the area, where a fair bit of building work blocks you going too far into the desert. Two years later, in Pokémon Black 2, the building work is complete and the route starts off with a long road with numerous buildings on either side. In White 2, however, the building work got halted as ruins of an ancient city were discovered.
