Legendary Pokémon
Like the other games, there are numerous Legendary Pokémon to be found within the Alola region. These Pokémon are the most powerful ones around and are very difficult to capture. These games are unique in that, combined, they have access to every single Legendary Pokémon that isn't a Mythical Pokémon.
#791 Solgaleo & #792 Lunala | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Location: Mahalo Trail The main Legendary Pokémon in the games are actually ones that have been with your travelling companion, Lillie, all throughout the game. Starting out as the Cosmog you rescue on the Mahalo Trail, it grows attached to you. Once kidnapped by the Aether Foundation, it evolves into Cosmoem and sends Lusamine to Ultra Space. Lillie asks you to go find the Legendary Pokémon in order to create a portal to get her back. However, when doing so, Cosmoem goes into the beam that summons it and evolves into Solgaleo or Lunala depending on the version and then gets absorbed into Necrozma and goes through to Ultra Megalopolis. Upon saving it, Lillie and Lusamine take it back to the Aether Foundation as it's weak, but after you encounter Gladion at Mount Lanakila, he will mention that Lillie is on Mahalo Trail. When you go there, she'll be there with Nebby and say that as she's not a trainer, it's best if you take it with you. You can then challenge it to a battle

#800 Necrozma | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Location: Altar of the Sunne/Moone, Ultra Megalopolis, Mount Lanakila Necrozma is the cover star of the games and is one of the more mysterious Pokémon. Necrozma is a Pokémon that in legends steals the light. Once it tried to steal the light from Alola until it was pushed back by the Guardian Deities. Due to this, it explored Ultra Space and came to Ultra Megaopolis where it stole the light, but the people there managed to restrain it. However, as its strength kept growing, the Ultra Recon Squad went exploring other worlds to find ways to stop it. This made Lusamine desire to open Ultra Wormholes to go there to stop it. However, when she does and you go to restore Nebby, Necrozma opens an Ultra Wormhole and fuses with Nebby. You battle it here, but can't capture it.
After this, you go to Ultra Megalopolis to try and stop it. As you reach the top of Megalo Tower, you will find Necrozma reaching its Ultra Burst and becoming Ultra Necrozma, its ultimate form. You then battle it here where all its stats are boosted by aura, but it once again cannot be captured.
After defeating it and saving Alola, you'll then learn that Necrozma has fallen through to another world, but without specification. When you climb Mount Lanakila towards the Pokémon League, you will discover Necrozma weakened in a crater. Interact with it and it'll ask if you'll share some light from your Z-Ring with it. Accept and it'll become well enough to battle. Here is where you can capture it. Defeat it and you'll find the Ultranecrozium Z

Location: Lake of the Sunne (Ultra Sun), Lake of the Moone (Ultra Moon) With the Cosmog you befriended in the game having evolved into the Solgaleo & Lunala, you can get another Cosmog. This Legendary Pokémon, while technically an Ultra Beast, is a rather complex one to get. After you have defeated the Elite Four, when it turns to Night in Sun or Day in Moon, you can return to the Altar of the Sunne/Moone with Solgaleo/Lunala in your team respectively and you'll be able to go to the Reverse World, where it is back to Day/Night depending on your game. Then, go to the Lake of the Sunne or Lake of the Moone from Ula'ula Meadow and reach the altar, with Solgaleo/Lunala still in your party. Cosmog will then appear. You don't need to battle it, it will join you automatically..

Ultra Wormhole Legendary Pokémon
As you go through the Ultra Wormhole from Altar of the Sunne/Moone, you will often find yourself in an area where, when you land, you get informed of a strong presence. Typically these Ultra Wormholes will have required you to travel thousands of light years to reach it and some have other requirements that need to be met before they will appear. When you have caught all Legendary Pokémon available in that specific area of the Ultra Space Wilds, you'll get a notice saying the presence is lost. All of the following Pokémon can be soft reset to be Shiny.
