Pokémon Gyms are not a thing in Alola. However, in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, one gym has opened up in Malie City. This Gym can be battled once a day and is an example of Kanto in Alola. While being based on Vermilion City Gym's layout, there is no puzzle here, just defeat all the trainers and then defeat the Leader. Sometimes, Ryuki will appear in the Gym to act as another trainer to beat.

This Gym costs 1,000 to play in, though you do get a Fresh Water when you get this. It can be played once a day and you will receive a Surge Badge as a reward for completion. This badge doesn't do anything and when you defeat the Gym on future instances, you will just get your badge replaced. However, it is still good for getting experience once a day.

The trainers will also increase in strength after completion of the Pokémon League.
