The Grand Underground

The Grand Underground is an evolution of the Underground feature from Pokémon Diamnod & Pearl. It has been expanded to a larger area, segmented into 6 different areas which are accessed through various points in Sinnoh, based on your geography. It is accessed by the Explorer Kit that you receive in Eterna City. He will then give you various tasks to get items
Use Explorer Kit - Red Sphere S, Blue Sphere S, Green Sphere S
Dig an object - Digger Drill
Make a Secret Base - 5 Quick Ball, 5 Dusk Ball, 5 Dive Ball
Decorate a Secret Base - 1 Square Pedestal XS
Dig in a wall started by another player - Clear Pedestal L

Like previously, you can interact with other players locally, but now with the online feature and also on your own. However, there are numerous changes.

Diglett Hunting

A new feature implemented into the Grand Underground is the Diglett feature. Throughout the Underground, you will see various Diglett and Dugtrio at junctions and corners. They will retreat before you can get to them but will leave some Glossy Stones; 1 Point for Diglett and 3 points for Dugtrio.

Players share the Diglett point count across the multiplayer lobby, so when one player gets the point, all players currently playing will also get the bonus. If players leave or join while a player in the lobby has got Diglett Points, they will also get them, even if they enter late.

If you collect 40 points in one session, then you will get a small bonus. For 4 minutes, you will have a slightly increased chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon in the Underground, 1 in 2048 compared to 1 in 4096, more chance of Rare Spawns, and the chances of getting a Gorgeous Box from digging is higher.

Diglett Bonus - Grand Underground

Digging

The digging feature makes a return and is largely unchanged from the original games. When you move through the Underground, there may be spots that can be dug up. These can be seen on the map and by pressing R to activate a radar which gets them to light up.

When in there, the minigame is the same as before. When you enter, it tells you the amount of items you can find in the square. You can use a pickax to knock out one square and a hammer to knock out more, but doing more damage to the wall. The grey rocks require more to break through.

If you clear the item, you get to keep it but there are many iron bars throughout the underground. If you hit them, it causes damage to the wall so avoid it. When the wall has received a maximum amount of damage, you will be removed and gain the items.

If you play in multiplayer, other players can join your dig. Whenever a player joins another person's dig, they will be able to take parts of your wall away without it damaging yours, so you can get some extra items done through co-ordination.

Spheres

Spheres can be used with the various traders throughout the Underground to get other items, larger spheres, TMs and more. These traders change their items daily from a random pool of items. Some traders will even expand the size of your Secret Base in exchange for Spheres.

Pokémon Hideaways

A new feature to this game is the Pokémon Hideaways. There's different biomes in each of the areas of the underground, and you can find wild Pokémon throughout the areas. Many Pokémon are exclusive to these Pokémon hideaways and more Pokémon appear at various points of your progression, with the Post-Dialga/Palkia being the feature that adds the most. Through this, nearly every Pokémon in the Post-Dialga/Palkia to Sinnoh

Each Pokémon also has a chance of having one of their Egg Moves when you catch them in the Underground.

Whenever you enter one of the Hideaways, there is a small chance of a "Rare Spawn" appearing. Rare Spawns are Pokémon not in the Sinnoh Pokédex and can appear at any time.

The Pokémon you find can be manipulated by utilising the Statues in your Secret Base

Secret Bases

Secret Bases make a return in the Grand Underground. Here, you can use the Digging Drill item to create a Secret Base anywhere within the Grand Underground. When it is set up, people can visit your base

Decorating Your Secret Bases

Decorating your Secret Bases is a lot different in this game than in the originals. Rather than using various furniture, the purpose of your Secret Base decoration here is to place various statues. These statues are then used to boost the chances of getting a Pokémon of a specific type, with the type the statue giving being based on the type of the Pokémon it's based on. There's only one boost at a time, and the more of each type you put in, the better the boost.

You can have 18 statues up at any one time, and they all need to fit. Statues have got a variety of different sizes based on the Pokémon and, for decoration, you can purchase Pedestals to put them on.

The bigger the statue, the more the effect on the wild Pokémon. The Color statues have got double the effect and Legendary statues have triple the effect.
