Niantic have announced the next Pokémon GO events for January 2021.
First, the Research Breakthrough Reward has been announced. From January 1st 2021 at 20:00 UTC to February 1st 2021 at 21:00 UTC you'll get an
The 5 Star Raid Battles have been confirmed. Ho-Oh will be available from January 1st 21:00 UTC through 5th 10:00 local time.
Genesect in its Burn Drive form will appear from January 5th 10:00 local time to 12th 10:00 local time.
Heatran returns January 12th 10:00 local time to 19th 10:00 local time
Kyogre & Groudon from January 19th 10:00 local time - 26th 10:00 local time
A "Surprise" Pokémon will appear from January 26th 10:00 local time.
Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise and Mega Abomasnow will be in Mega Raids with Mega Charizard Y from January 5th through 12th. Following that, on January 12th a new Mega Evolution will be added while Venusaur and Houndoom return, with Houndoom

Niantic have announced the next Pokémon GO event. This event is the New Year Event and features a variety of boosts. It runs from December 31st 2020 at 22:00 local time until January 4th at 22:00 local time. It contains 2* Hatch Candy, 2* Hatch Stardust and 50% Incubator Distance
During this event, Slowpoke will be available with special 2020 Glasses, which then evolves into a Slowbro with 2021 glasses
Pichu will be available with a New Year's Hat in 2km eggs with Pikachu with the New Years Hat in the wild and in Field Research. It can also evolve into a Raichu in the New Years Hat.
Wynaut will also be hatching in 2km Eggs
Raticate, Wobbuffet and Wurmple with party hats will be in 1 Star Raids. Klink and Espurr will also be in 1 Star Raids
Eevee with a Party Hat will be available in Field Research
There will also be special outfits for the New Year Hat and 2021 Glasses available from December 30th

Niantic have announced the Spotlight Hours for the month of January. They happen at 6pm to 7pm local time are as follows:
January 5th - Lilipup - 2* Catch Stardust
January 12th - Drifloon - 2* Catch Experience
January 19th - Shroomish - 2* Catch Candy
January 26th - Phanpy - 2* Transfer Candy

Some new updates have gone live for Nintendo Switch Pokémon software. First Pokémon Sword & Shield has received a new update bringing the game to Version 1.3.1. This update provides various undisclosed bug fixes including ones with a few battle mechanics. We're currently working out what it fixes

The Pokémon GO Holiday Event is now rolling out, running from 08:00 local time on December 22nd to 22:00 local time on December 31st. This event gives players the addition of Vanillite to the game alongside winter outfit Pikachu, Cubchoo and Delibird, new raids, Field Research and more.
