Regidrago, The Dragon Orb Pokémon. An academic theory proposes that Regidrago’s arms were once the head of an ancient dragon Pokémon. The theory remains unproven. Its body is composed of crystallized dragon energy. Regidrago is said to have the powers of every dragon Pokémon.

Overview

A new Regi has arrived and using its dragon power it is ready to unleash its outrage! While there isn't anything notable on Regidrago apart from its humongous HP stat, it has passable offensive stats and thanks to its signature ability, Dragon's Maw, its STAB Dragon attacks gain a x1.5 boost allowing it to put huge dents on anything that is not resistant to Dragon. While Regidrago's movepool is not particularly impressive, it gets what it needs in terms of coverage. However, due to its lack of options to hit Fairy types super effectively, it gets walled by bulky Fairies like Clefable. Unfortunately its offensive stats are average at best which ultimately cuts its offensive potential.
Positives
It's immense HP stat means that it is fairly bulky and it can take advantage of the resistances its Dragon typing grants it to set up.
Dragon's Maw's strong boost to its STAB Dragon-type moves allows Regidrago to blast through walls and denting resists.
While its movepool is not really impressive, it gets what it needs in Fire Fang, Thunder Fang and Hammer Arm.

Negatives
While its base 100 Attack is not terrible by all means, it is still an average stat which makes it difficult for Regidrago to get past dedicated physical walls like Quagsire or Hippowdon.
Dragapult is extremely common which makes it hard for Regidrago to set up as it still gets outspeeded at +1 and it can be revenge killed by it.
Due to its lack of options to hit Fairy types super effectively and their immunity to Regidrago's boosted Dragon attacks, it is hard walled by bulky Fairy types like Clefable.

Thanks to its incredible bulk, Regidrago can reliably set up Substitute against foes that cannot harm it like Heatran or Ferrothorn while avoiding status inflections. Dragon Claw is Regidrago's best STAB and thanks to Dragon Maw's boost, it will deal great amounts of damage to anything that is not immune to the move. Dragon Dance allows Regidrago to set up and gain necessary boosts to its Attack and Speed increasing its wall-breaking potential and finally, Fire Fang lets Regidrago easily beat Ferrothorn and Scizor. However, if Regidrago doesn't wants to be walled by Tapu Fini or Togekiss, Thunder Fang is an acceptable replacement as it still provides coverage on Corviknight and Skarmory while hitting the former for super-effective damage.

DYNAMAX
It's worth mentioning that once Dynamaxed, Regidrago gains an incredible amount of bulk making it harder to take down. However, you should only Dynamax once Regidrago accumulates a good amount of Dragon Dances under its belt unless it is necessary to tank a hit. It's worth mentioning that Redidrago survives Dragapult's Specs Draco Meteor but only from full health once it Dynamaxes.

EV and Items
Because of its relatively great bulk, Regidrago wants max Attack and Speed in order to maximize its offensive potential while the rest goes into Special Defense to give Porygon2 a boost in Attack instead. If you consider investing in bulk, don't invest on HP and instead focus on its defenses in order to maximize its bulk. Leftovers provides the necessary passive recovery Regidrago needs in order to recover the lost HP from using Substitute while making it harder to take down thanks to its massive HP stat.

Adamant Nature

With a Choice Band and good defenses, Regidrago can find opportunities to switch into resisted attacks and become a much more immediate threat against the opponent once it comes into action. Outrage is a massive threat as it can now 2HKO Quagsire or Hippowdon thanks to the Choice Band's and Dragon Maw's boost allowing it to break past them. However, in case Outrage's secondary effect is undesirable, you can use Dragon Claw instead which offers more reliabiltiy at the expense of power. Fire Fang offers coverage against Scizor and Ferrothorn while Hammer Arm nails Heatran on the spot. Thunder Fang is Regidrago's best option against Tapu Fini who would otherwise be able to switch-in freely and nails her for good damage.

DYNAMAX
You can use Dynamax to get out of Chocie Band's restriciton in case the situation clearly merits it or if you are locked into a move that can give a free oportunity for the AI to set up. Otherwise, save Dynamax for another sweeper.

EV and Items
Once again, Max Attack and Speed is required to maximize Regidrago's wall-breaking power with the rest invested in Special Defense to give Porygon2 a boost to its Attack stat instead. Choice Band increases its attack output making full extent of Regidrago's average movepool size.

Partners

Once again Steel types are the best possible partners for this set. Heatran and Ferrothorn makes it easier for Regidrago to wallbreak thanks to the residual damage of Stealth Rock and Spikes they can set up. Bisharp gains even more traction with this set since Regidrago's focus will be on hitting hard walls switching into it while Bisharp can set up Swords Dance later to sweep a weakened team. Tapu Koko is worth mentioning here since it can U-turn into Regidrago to bring it into the match and its Electric Terrain boosts the power of Thunder Fang which makes the move much more usable as a middlground to hit expected Fairy switch-ins a bit harder.

Other Options

Dragon Energy, Regidrago's signature move, is a very strong STAB capable of nuking walls form full health and in paper, it seems to be an excellent move to use. However, what makes it difficult to justify its use in Singles comes from the fact that Regidrago's special movepool is basically non-existent. Consdering that Regidrago's coverage options are physical it makes it harder to built upon since going mixed means that Regidrago will have to cut either its bulk or Speed which is undesirable.

VGC & Double Battle Options

One of the new legendaries added with the Crown Tundra DLC, Regidrago is a very one-dimensional Pokemon with not much to it. Dragon's Maw and Dragon Energy are pretty much all you need to know about Regidrago because there's not much else to it. In a Doubles metagame that will see the return of Tapu Fini, having nothing of note beyond Dragon-type moves is going to hurt long-term. A Dragon-type Eruption backed up by Dragon's Maw also looks a lot less impressive when it's being used by something with such a middling Speed tier, so it needs a fair bit of support to make it work. That said, if you don't have good Dragon-type resists then Regidrago can definitely be a threat.

Regidrago almost doesn't have any other move options for a set, and this isn't even strictly talking about viable options either. There's simply not many moves it can even use for a set, but Dragon Energy is such a strong move on its own that you can make it work. A Dragon-type Eruption is a very strong tool even with Regidrago's average Special Attack just because Dragon's Maw gives it so much extra power. Draco Meteor is a single target nuke option that gives it some way to threaten foes even when its HP is too low for Dragon Energy, though the drops can be a problem so Dragon Pulse is used in the third slot to give a consistent alternative. Protect is Protect but also what else are you even going to run on this anyway?

Dragon Fang boosts the power Regidrago's Dragon-type moves, which realistically is all of them. Life Orb's recoil isn't worth the slight boost in power anyway. Modest nature gives Regidrago as much power as possible, though Timid makes its Speed tier easier to work with. Maximum offensive investment is also a given since it needs all the help it can get in the offense department, and its high HP helps offset its awful defenses well enough as is.

Other Options & Team Ideas

- There's literally no other significantly notable move options for Regidrago other than the ones listed.
- Ok maybe it has Dragon Dance if you want to run a physical set with Fire Fang and Scale Shot, but Dragon Energy is really the biggest draw of using Regidrago so a special set is easier to work with.
- Speed control is very important here so that Regidrago can take full advantage of the power of Dragon Energy, so Tailwind and Trick Room are major considerations. Dusclops and Stakataka are considerations for the Trick Room side, while Whimsicott, Tornadus, and Togekiss can provide the Tailwind support. Galarian Articuno can interestingly offer both options depending on what you need for the team.
- Terrain control can be very useful to prevent Tapu Fini's Misty Terrain from significantly neutering Regidrago's damage output, so Rillaboom stands out as an option here as it can directly threaten Tapu Fini itself. Grassy Terrain can also be helpful in keeping Regidrago healthy so it can use Dragon Energy more reliably.

Countering Regidrago

Fairy types like Clefairy, Togekiss and Tapu Fini will easily wall Regidrago due to its inability to hit them super-effectively. Unaware Clefable is a hard counter for Regidrago as it absolutely has nothing to get past it. Togekiss and Tapu Fini have to watch out of Thunder Fang from the Banded sets but they will easily wall Dragon Dance sets that lack the move due to its average Attack stat and immunity to Dragon.

Dragapult is the best revenge killer available for Regidrago since it will still outspeed it at +1 and it can easily revenge kill it with a Draco Meteor in case it is not being protected by a Substitute. On a similar vein, Choice Scarf Latios and Latias will also achieve the same.
