Exeggutor, The Coconut Pokémon. Each of Exeggutor's three heads is thinking different thoughts. The three don't seem to be very interested in one another. When they work together, Exeggutor's three heads can put out powerful psychic energy. Cloudy days make this Pokémon sluggish.
Overview
The generations just keep getting crueler and crueler to Exeggutor. The RBY super star has fallen on hard times with its poor Special Defense, low speed and lackluster typing. Even with Grass types enjoying their greatest renaissance yet, Exeggutor negative traits outweigh any positives it can bring. Being the Chlorophyll sweeper with the highest base Offense means nothing when your competition can boost right past you, possess greater coverage and not be outsped in the Sun. Exeggutor functions best in the Sun but suffers from the same flaws as every Chlorophyll sweeper and offers little that isn’t replicated by another Pokémon.
Positives
A Massive Base 125 Special Attack ensures that when Exeggutor lands a hit, it is going to hit hard.
Exeggutor possesses a wide support movepool including nearly every support Psychic and Grass move, giving it a great degree of flexibility.
Negatives
Base 55 Speed is poor, even with a Chlorophyll boost, Exeggutor finds itself outsped by staple threats such has Dragapult, Zeraora and most Choice Scarfers
Grass/Psychic is a horrible defensive typing giving common Ice, Dark, and Flying weaknesses on top of a crippling 4x Bug weakness
Poor Coverage options means that Exeggutor is limited to its STABs and Sludge Bomb in most instances
Movesets
Dreaming of Sunny Days
-Sleep Powder
-Sunny Day
-Solar Beam/Giga Drain
-Psyshock
Item Attached: Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs and Nature:
4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
The idea of the set is to setup Sunny Day and have Exeggutor punch holes in the opposing team before switching out or being KO’d. Exeggutor’s bulk is decent and has a few resistances to enable the Sunny Day setup. Sleep Powder is just as important as Sunny Day, enabling Exeggutor to shutdown an opposing counter or check, giving it more breathing room to setup. Solarbeam is the Grass STAB of choice in the Sun, possessing incredible power especially off of Exeggutor’s high Special attack. However, any weather disruption disrupts Solar Beam, so Giga Drain is an alternative option that keeps Exeggutor healthy throughout the game. Psyshock rounds out the set as Exeggutor’s reliable secondary STAB that gets by Special Sponges like Chansey and Cryogonal who otherwise can take Exeggutor’s special attacks all day.
Dynamax
Dynamax is not especially recommended. Solarbeam Max Overgrowth and Psyshock Max Mindstorm are powerful moves that setup beneficial terrains for Exeggutor, the former even ignoring weather changes, but coverage is limited and Exeggutor cannot escalate like other Dynamax sweepers. Additionally, in formats without Sleep Clause, Dynamax means no Sleep Powder and no way to reestablish Sun, which are key to Exeggutor’s functioning.EVs and Items
Standard Sweeper spread to maximize power and speed so Exeggutor can inflict as much damage as possible. Modest is preferred for the extra Power, but Timid does enable outspeeding Timid Specs Dragapult and Timid Accelgor, but misses out on the 2HKO on Chansey, the OHKO after Rocks on Dragapult, and the guaranteed OHKO on Obstagoon and Polteageist. Life Orb is recommended for the extra power boost.Other Options
Heat Rock -enables Exeggutor to keep its sun around longer, though with how easy Weather is to disrupt thank to Dynamax and the existence of better Sun Setters make this a niche option.Sludge Bomb – Coverage Option that enables Exeggutor to boost itself while Dynamaxed. However, that means either giving up your extremely strong Grass STAB, your Psychic STAB that leaves you easily walled by any Poison type, or your ability to setup Sun
Leaf Storm + Power Swap -niche combo that enables Exeggutor to repeatedly fire off Leaf Storms while tanking the opponent’s Special Attack with Exeggutor’s own drops, but Exeggutor is a bit too slow to pull this off effectively.
Trick Room – Exeggutor’s slow Speed makes it a niche Trick Room setter, but its numerous weaknesses cause it to struggle to setup or take full advantage of it.
Partners
Torkoal and Ninetails stand out as Drought users who automatically setup the sun for Exeggutor, enabling it to focus on the sweep immediately in addition to melting the Steel types that trouble Exeggutor, as well as forming 2/3 of a Grass Fire Water core. Other Fire types perform similarly, though without the automatic sun.
Countering Exeggutor
Exeggutor is difficult to outright counter. Its typing may be a huge Achilles heel, but Sleep Powder’s ability to shutdown any check or counter must be respected. Ferrothorn is the lone counter to Exeggutor, taking pittance from all moves and not caring one whit about Sleep Powder. Xatu is a close second, resisting both STABs and nulling Sleep Powder with Magic Bounce. However, Solarbeam and Sludge Bomb are a solid 2HKO in return. Hatterene and Espeon similarly cope well with Sleep Powder but are maimed by Solar Beam and Sludge Bomb.
If Sleep Powder is not a concern, Mandibuzz, Galarian Moltres, Umbreon, and Assault Vest Guzzlord all take pittance from Exeggutor’s moves and can reliably setup or OHKO it back with their STABs. Many Steel types also perform well, resisting Sludge Bomb and STABs, but STAB Solarbeam can still 2HKO a lot of them.
Opposing Chlorophyll users like Venusaur, Shiftry and Leafeon can take advantage of a setup Exeggutor and reliably outspeed and OHKO it without fearing Sleep Powder, but do not like coming in on STAB Psychic or Sludge Bomb
Priority is another excellent option to revenge KO Chlorophyll Exeggutor, considering its numerous weaknesses. Sucker Punch, Ice Shard and First Impression all maim or OHKO Exeggutor before it can react.
Exeggutor, The Coconut Pokémon. Blazing sunlight has brought out the true form and powers of this Pokémon. This Pokémon's psychic powers aren't as strong as they once were. The head on this Exeggutor's tail scans surrounding areas with weak telepathy.
Overview
Alolan Exeggutor has had a similarly rough generation as its Kantonian counterpart. Good offensive stats and a wide movepool are major selling points, and while Alolan Exeggutor can setup its own Trick Room for a sweep, common weaknesses and incredible competition as a Dragon type make it difficult to justify a team slot.
PositivesIncredible Special Attack and usable Attack enables Alolan Exeggutor to hit hard on both sides of the spectrum for a degree of unpredictability.
Wide offensive and support movepool ensures that Alolan Exeggutor has a move for every situation.
Negatives
A quadruple weakness to Ice on top of a common Fairy weakness prevent Alolan Exeggutor from exercising its bulk as much as it would like.
Reliant on Trick Room to function effectively, which is notoriously unreliable in Singles due to the short time limit and there being Pokémon who can outslow Alolan Exeggutor.
Stiff competition as a Dragon type. Why use something as slow as Alolan Exeggutor when you can have speedy powerhouses like Dragapult and Hydreigon who possess comparable bulk? It's of course down to choice, but there are so many alternatives that can be seen as more formidable
Movesets
Warped Tree
-Trick Room
-Draco Meteor
-Giga Drain
-Flamethrower
Item Attached: Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs and Nature:
252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spe
Quiet Nature
Have Alolan Exeggutor setup Trick Room and then break through the opposing team utilizing its massive Special Attack and great coverage and ability to “outspeed” all of the faster frailer threats under Trick Room. Use it in the late game to sweep through the weakened team. Draco Meteor is overwhelmingly powerful, having a good chance to OHKO anything that doesn’t resist or is immune to it. Giga Drain is a reliable secondary STAB that provides recovery to help offset the hits Alolan Exeggutor takes when setting up Trick Room and more importantly doesn’t tank Alolan Exeggutor’s special attack. Flamethrower rounds out the set, giving Alolan Exeggutor a valuable coverage option versus Steel types that would otherwise wall it.
Dynamax
Alolan Exeggutor makes for a fine Dynamax sweeper and wall, able to exercise its enormous bulk under Trick Room and near impossible to OHKO without a STAB super effective move. A Draco Meteor Max Wyrmwind is devastating and spammable due to no Special Attack Drop and the wide neutral STAB coverage. Max Overgrowth provides some extra Healing and further powers itself up. Max Flare similarly powers itself up and makes Alolan Exeggutor even more bulky by guaranteeing Harvest’s activation.EVs & Items
Max Special Attack so Alolan Exeggutor can deal as much damage as possible during Trick Room. HP is maxed out so that Alolan Exeggutor can survive setting up Trick Room and get the most out of Dynamax and the Sitrus Berry healing. Since this set is a Trick Room sweeper, the idea is to be as slow as possible to outspeed as many Pokémon as possible. Sitrus Berry is the preferred item as it helps offset the damage taken when setting up Trick Room and is renewable thanks to Harvest and synergizes well with Dynamaxing and Max Flare.
Other Options
Solarbeam/Leaf Storm -Far more powerful than Giga Drain and a much more powerful Max Overgrowth, but this set has no way of setting Sun outside of Dynamax and are inferior in coverage to Draco Meteor.
Dragon Pulse -Far more reliable Dragon STAB, but the power drop is noticeable. Best used if you are using Leaf Storm or Solar Beam instead of Giga Drain.
Earthquake -Wrecks Heatran who otherwise walls most Alolan Exeggutor.
Sleep Powder -Incredible at shutting down a single target that otherwise checks Alolan Exeggutor or gives trouble to the team, but is hard to slot in without sacrificing valuable coverage or Trick Room.
Physical - Alolan Exeggutor can run a physical set. However, its Attack is much lower, necessitating Swords Dance which either leaves no room for Trick Room, or losing out on valuable coverage.
Partners
Steel types are great partners for Alolan Exeggutor, being able to switch into all its weaknesses and are generally slow enough to enjoy the buff from Trick Room. Alolan Sandlash stands out for actively threatening Flying and Dragon types with its STAB Ice moves. Slow Water types like Wishiwashi, Arctovish, Lanturn and Azumarill all serve as an active pivot into Ice moves for Alolan Exeggutor, can take advantage of Trick Room and in turn lure in Grass and Electric types that Alolan Exeggutor can easily come in on and setup.
Countering Alolan Exeggutor
Alolan Exeggutor, like its Kantonian counterpart is difficult to fully counter thanks to its wide movepool, balanced stats, and access to Sleep Powder. Unlike its Kantonian counterpart, it finds it hard to slot Sleep Powder onto its movesets, making that a far less common issue.
Heatran stands out for walling any Alolan Exeggutor not carrying Earthquake. Togekiss fares similarly, taking pittance from Flamethrower and really only fearing Sludge Bomb. Dedicated sponges like Chansey, Clefairy, Umbreon, Galarian Slowking also handle most special variants of Alolan Exeggutor.
