Alomomola, The Caring Pokémon. It uses its special mucus to close the wounds of injured Pokémon. The reason for this behavior remains unknown. They float upon the open sea. Many water Pokémon gather in the area around Alomomola.
Overview
Alomomola has always been an unusual Pokémon. On first glance, you'd think "Oh, it's just another stupid Water-type Pokémon", but when you look into it, it is a very good walling Pokémon. While it's not the best attacking Pokémon, Alomomola is still quite capable. The Generation VII shift didn't give it that many new toys to play with, but it can still be a fantastic Support Pokémon, especially in Singles
Positives
+ It has a huge Hit Point stat. 165 base is just phenomenal and the 7th highest in the game
+ It has access to Wish
+ It has access to Regenerator
+ It has a solidish Defense stat at 80
Negatives
- Its Special Defense is terrible. Even with its Hit Point stat, a Thunderbolt from Alolan Raichu would still 2HKO it, OHKO in Electric Terrain
- It can't really defend itself that well with a 75/40 Attack/Sp.Attack stat
- It has a higher physical Attack than Special Attack despite having a very small Physical movepool
- It's a bit slow with 65 Speed
Abilities
Healer: At the end of the turn, there is a 30% chance of either Ally being healed from a status condition - This is a decent enough ability in Double battles, but in Singles it's useless
Hydration: All status problems: Burn, Paralysis, Sleep, Frozen and Poison, are healed when raining. - This ability is a bit more useful, especially as weather wars are starting to become a thing again, but when you compare it to its Hidden Ability, it's not the best option
Hidden Ability (Available):
Regenerator: When the Pokémon switches out of battle, up to 33.3% of its maximum Hit Points are restored - This is a great ability, since that heals a lot of damage and, when teamed with Wish, means you can wall out the opponent and support your other Pokémon like crazy
Movesets
Wish Upon An Ocean Star
- Toxic
- Scald
- Wish
- Protect
Item Attached: Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs and Nature:
36 HP / 220 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
This is pretty much the standard set you'll see with Alomomola in the current format. Toxic will poison the foe, which is great when you're a wall. Scald will allow for you to do damage, and possibly inflict Burn on the opponent, Protect works as it always does but Wish is where this set comes into itself. Wish will heal the Pokémon by 50% of Alomomola's max Hit Points at the end of the following turn. This allows for you to either wall out the opponent, or switch so another of your Pokémon gets the recovery while Almomola gets a 33% Hit Point recovery due to switching out thanks to Regenerator. You can play some serious walling games here
Other Options
-Calm Mind can be used to shore up Alomomola's Special Defense, as well as make its moves hit harder
-Mirror Coat. Hear me out, it's a bit gimmicky but since most will try to go for the Special attacks to take Alomomola down, and Alomomola having a decent shot at surviving many of them due to its bulk, you can do some serious revenge damage on it.
-Play Nice is one of the new tools that Alomomola got this generation, and it's always handy in a slightly gimmicky way. It lowers the opponent's Attack. Can't go wrong with that
-Going with Physical sets rather than Scald can be an option. Waterfall, for example, can be good to get flinches off if you're inexplicably faster than your opponent
Countering Alomomola
Just to start off, anything Physical is going to have a lot of trouble getting past Alomomola, while Special Attackers will have a walk in the park. Taunt users will also completely shut down Alomomola, making it unable to do what it needs to do.. Most Grass/Electric-type Pokémon will have an easy time with Alomomola, either through Toxic, or just blasting through its pitiful Special Defense. Many Special users that also employ Substitutes can avoid Toxic damage from Alomomola and also defeat it in return.
