Uxie

Uxie, The Knowledge Pokémon. When Uxie flew, people gained the ability to solve problems. It was the birth of knowledge. It is said that its emergence gave humans the intelligence to improve their quality of life. According to some sources, this Pokémon provided people with the intelligence necessary to solve various problems. Known as "The Being of Knowledge."ť It is said that it can wipe out the memory of those who see its eyes.

Overview

Uxie is one of the three beings of Emotion, created by Arceus at the grey dawn of time. Being the being of Knowledge, Uxie is what supposedly granted us as humans intelligence. Probably a bad judgment on its part, considering everyone loading up their save files on their D/P/P or B2/W2 can catch it in the technology that was developed thanks to this knowledge, forced to do the bidding of whichever 10 year old little boy caught it. You'd think it would have had a little foresight, but apparently not. Anyhow, Uxie is actually pretty good in the lower tiers, especially since Cresselia got pushed back up. Uxie's base 130 Defenses are excellent, though its base 75 HP is a little bet underwhelming. Despite this, Uxie also has an extremely wide movepool, allowing it to fulfill quite a few roles, though most still focus on its defensive capabilities, and for pretty good reason. Although Uxie has a pretty good speed (sitting at a comfortable base 95), both of its offenses are at a mediocre 75, thus requiring a boosting move to generally make them worth using. Overall, you should generally be using Uxie defensively, as both its stats and its movepool scream for you to use it that way.

Abilities

Levitate: Gives an immunity to Ground moves, Spikes of any sort, and Arena Trap. Although you don't get a choice, Levitate is pretty good on Uxie, helping it avoid several hazards and the all too common Earthquakes.

Movesets

Now Uxie Me, Now You Don't!

-Stealth Rock
-Thunder Wave / Yawn
-Psychic
-U-turn
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

This is the main Uxie set you'll see, and is probably the one you'll need to worry the most about. Stealth Rock is one of the primary purposes of this set, giving your team hazard support from a reliable wall. Thunder Wave or Yawn can be used for different types of status, though Thunder Wave is preferable as you can do it to more than one Pokemon (as most battling places have some form of sleep clause). Psychic is strong STAB that will allow you to beat weakened Pokemon and some Fighting / Poison types. U-turn is a handy escape out of a bad match up, or to scout out what your opponent was planning to switch in on Uxie, and gives you the momentum to pivot out and be able to scare out whatever they switched in or KO it. The EVs are set so that you have enough speed to outrun max speed Nidoqueen (this is a good thing), with the rest put in Defense.

RU Blind?

-Substitute
-Calm Mind
-Psychic / Psyshock
-Thunderbolt
Item Attached: Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 96 HP / 188 SAtk / 224 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)

This set focuses on boosting Uxie's mediocre offensive prowess, which is surprisingly formidable after a boost or two. Substitute helps to scout what your opponent will do and gives you protection from status. Calm Mind is what allows you to actually hit anything with something remotely resembling power behind it, and helps you out on the SDef side of things too. Psychic and Psyshock are used for STAB and both fulfill certain roles, Psychic hitting most everything in the tier, while Psyshock allows you to beat Cryogonal and other CM users. Thunderbolt hits Pokemon like Moltres and Slowking hard, and also gives Uxie a way to hit Dark types. This EV spread allows Uxie to deal with Rotom-A (the fan) and Moltres after a boost, with Timid allowing Uxie to outspeed most variants.

There's a pixie stuck on my windscreen...

-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave / Yawn
-U-turn / Memento
Item Attached: Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -Atk)

This is a typical dual screens set, and Uxie does it quite well. Reflect and Light Screen help to shield your team from any sort of damage, allowing set up sweepers to get their boosts in without as much fear of getting KO'd, with Light Clay prolonging the screens. The choice for the third slot is dependent on what you need, either hazards or status. The last slot goes to either U-turn or Memento, U-turn allowing you once again to scout / escape, while Memento cripples whatever Pokemon is out and allows your set up sweeper ample time to get boosts as your opponent will likely have to switch.

Dancing in the rain...or sun

-Sunny Day / Rain Dance
-Psychic / Heal Bell
-Stealth Rock
-U-turn / Memento
Item Attached: Heat Rock / Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe or 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk) or Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

This moveset is a whole bunch of options, as it depends on what weather you want to set up and what other roles you want Uxie to fill. Sunny Day or Rain Dance (paired with their respective items) give you a weather setter in RU, allowing some Pokemon to sweep or heal or whatnot. Psychic is STAB and prevents you being shut down entirely by Taunt, while Heal Bell allows for Uxie to be a general cleric and helpfully removing status. Stealth Rock is there for providing the obvious hazard. The U-turn / Memento choice is similar to the one in the last set, with Memento allowing your weather sweeper to set up instead. The choice for Natures depends on whether you choose Psychic or U-turn, or which one you want to hit harder if you pick both, while the choice for EVs is dependent really on whether you choose to use Memento, as more speed is beneficial with Memento.

The Trickster

-Trick
-Zen Headbutt / Thunder Wave
-U-turn
-Stealth Rock
Item Attached: Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs and Nature:
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SAtk)

This set and the last one are more gimmicky sets than the other three, as this one allows Uxie to ruin your opponent's day by Tricking a Scarf onto one of their support Pokemon. Trick is there for aforementioned reasons. Zen Headbutt provides you with STAB if you want to revenge kill something, while Thunder Wave cripples other Choice Scarf Pokemon or faster sweepers not expecting Scarf Uxie. U-turn allows Uxie to escape an unfavorable match up, or just scout what your opponent was planning to do. Stealth Rock allows you to quickly place hazards, though you may want to do this once you have gotten rid of the Scarf.

Other Options

Energy Ball, Hidden Power, Protect, Rest, Safeguard, Sandstorm, Shadow Ball, SolarBeam, Thunder, Toxic, Trick Room
Energy Ball can be used for additional coverage on Pokemon like Quagsire
Hidden Power can also be used for additional coverage, allowing Uxie to hit particular threats.
Protect allows Uxie to scout out what your opponent was doing better the U-turn as you are entirely shielded (though left in a bad position if they decided to switch to something Uxie can't handle).
Rest is Uxie's only form of recovery outside of Leftovers, so if you want some form of healing, this is it.
Safeguard can be used in Doubles to help shield your team from status, and Uxie is a good user for it.
Sandstorm can be used on the weather set for higher tiers (as Sand is banned from lower ones).
Shadow Ball can be used for additional coverage, and pretty powerful at that.
SolarBeam can be used on the Sun set as a powerful coverage move.
Thunder fills the same role as Solarbeam, just hitting different things on the Rain set.
Toxic can be used over the other status moves to cripple more wall-like Pokemon.
Trick Room can be used on a slower Uxie set, providing Trick Room support to your team if you want it.

Double & Triple Battle Options

Uxie can run an Imprison set in Doubles to good effect (as it could prevent the opponent from using a variety of support moves), and also can support its team with Helping Hand.

Partners

Uxie likes having Fighting type partners to deal with the Dark and Bug types that it has trouble with, with Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hariyama all being good partners. Uxie also likes having Wish support, as it has pretty much no reliable form of healing other than Rest, with Clefable being the most apparent.

Countering Uxie

One of the better ways to counter Uxie is Taunt, allowing you to shut down whatever Uxie was planning on setting up, be it Stealth Rock, Substitutes, weather, screens, anything. Faster Taunt users such as Aerodactyl are good at filling this role. Uxie also has trouble with strong Bug, Dark, and Ghost types, Skuntank, Spiritomb, Escavalier, and Rotom being some of the more prominent ones. Just being able to hit Uxie generally is a good counter, as without Wish support or the highly uncommon Rest, Uxie has no reliable form of recovery. Just hit it hard and repeatedly and you should be able to get past it.
