Dunsparce, The Land Snake Pokémon. It digs into the ground with its tail and makes a mazelike nest. It can fly just a little.It creates mazes in dark locations. When spotted, it flees into the ground by digging with its tail. If spotted, it escapes by burrowing with its tail. It can float just slightly using its wings.

Overview

Dunspace is one of the Pokemon that people are praying gets an evolution when X and Y come out, and it's easy to see why. With a relatively shallow movepool, terrible stats, and horrific defensive and offensive typing, Dunsparce has very limited uses. It's one niche is functioning as a paraflincher, with it's ability Serene Grace adding to the likelihood of flinches occurring. The main problem is actually managing to survive long enough to paralyze anything, but that's besides the point. So please, unless you're just joking around in NeverUsed, don't use Dunsparce. Above NU, there are better options for paraflinchers (Togekiss and Jirachi), and Dunsparce is often too frail to survive any hit from any Fighting type.

Abilities

Serene Grace: Chance of the secondary effects of move occurring are doubled, basically the godsend for Dunsparce, the only thing that makes Dunsparce remotely usable as it permits it the niche of being a ParaFlincher.
Run Away: Increases chance of escaping a wild battle, completely useless competitively, so unless you like escaping from Pokemon in game, don't ever use this.
Rattled: Raises Speed by one when hit by a Bug, Dark, or Ghost type move, might be decent if Dunsparce was remotely fast in the first place and if Serene Grace weren't infinitely better.

This set is the flagship set of Dunsparce, king of the wing-ed land snakes. This voluminous beast has scourged the tiers for ages, bringing paralysis upon its foes with a variety of moves. It either sends out a wave of electricity to instantly paralyze a foe, or uses the less reliable method of staring down its opponent. Its final option to immobilize the foe is to slam its enormous bulk into the opposing creature, stunning it into submission. The second moveslot goes to the move that the trainer feels will most adequately force the opponent to flinch, either having the king use its drill tail to bring down a mountain upon its foe, bashing it with its hard carapace, latching on with its fearsome jaws, or using its mental prowess to yet again slam its formidable cranium into the adversary. Its third option in battle is to either wrap up its oh so enormous body into a tight space, miraculously boosting its offensive and defensive powers, while also increasing its aim, or to create a misshapen voodoo doll out of some of its own skin and the skin of its fore-bearers, allowing it to avoid attack for as long as the caricature lasts. Its final slot takes advantage of the land snake's gigantic wings, as it spreads them to their full potential and flies up to a nearby branch or cliff, resting and regaining its strength. The spread for its Effort Values brings equilibrium to the bulk of our monster, and the rest ensuring maximum power and health. The Derpsparce also feeds upon the remnants of its lunch to regain strength after every attack, allowing it to better vanquish the enemy.

Other Options

Agility, Ancientpower, Blizzard, Calm Mind, Charge Beam, Curse, Earthquake, Fire Blast, Magic Coat, Pain Split, Protect, Shadow Ball, Stealth Rock, Thunder, Toxic, Yawn.
Agility raises speed by two stages, allowing Dunsparce to actually outrun things without paralyzing them first.
Ancientpower could be good on a Special Attacker set as it has a good chance to boost all of your stats.
Blizzard hits some threats hard and is good coverage.
Calm Mind makes a Special Attacking set feasible, boosting Dunsparce's minimal Special Attack.
Charge Beam has a high chance of boosting SAtk, allowing you to use a Special Attacking set.
Curse is an alternative to Coil if you like using Trick Room.
Earthquake hits Steel types, which generally would stop Dunsparce.
Fire Blast is like Earthquake, but Fire and a Special Attack (serves the same purpose though).
Magic Coat can be used to block back status or hazards, protecting Dunsparce.
Pain Split can be used as an inferior Roost, just no.
Protect can be used to scout and to shield Dunsparce.
Shadow Ball can be used for coverage on a Special Attacking set.
Stealth Rock can be used to...well, put up Stealth Rock.
Thunder can be used for more coverage on a Calm Mind Dunsparce.
Toxic can be used to wear down walls if you don't feel like flinching them to death.
Yawn can be used to immobilize Steels and other Pokemon you don't want to or can't flinch into oblivion.

Double & Triple Battle Options

It has these? Well, it can be used, whether it should be is a different question. It is extremely outclassed in these formats, and really the only thing it has going for it is Rock Slide, so probably not worth it.

Partners

Anything that can take advantage of slowed down Pokemon likes having Dunsparce. Dunsparce likes having Pokemon that can eliminate Steel and Ghost types (the majority of the time), so Pokemon like Sawk and Gardevoir can be useful.

Countering Dunsparce

As if there was anything that could counter the almighty flying land snake. But, it does run into some problems with...well, most everything. Most anything that outspeeds it can massacre Dunsparce, as well as Special Attackers (Gardevoir, Ludicolo, Musharna), Fighting types (Sawk and Gurdurr), and anything that avoids Paralysis such as Ground types for Thunder Wave Dunsparce, or Guts / Quick Feet Pokemon that take advantage of it and wipe through Dunsparce's puny defenses. Basically, if you hit it before it gets Coil boosts (or if it doesn't have Coil), it will die.
