Mew, The New Specie Pokémon. Because it can use all kinds of moves, many scientists believe Mew to be the ancestor of Pokémon. Apparently, it appears only to those people who are pure of heart and have a strong desire to see it. Its DNA is said to contain the genetic codes of all Pokémon, so it can use all kinds of techniques. It is capable of making itself invisible at will, so it entirely avoids notice even if it approaches people. A Pokémon of South America that was thought to have been extinct. Overview Mew is an amazing Pokémon. It can learn any learnable move, TM and Move Tutor, from the generations giving it a massive movepool. It has a 600 BST which allows it to be a jack of all trades. As it's not currently available directly in Generation V, you should make sure it has the moves you know when you transfer it from Generation IV. The problem is though, that while Mew can do anything, it can be outclassed at nearly everything it can do. The key here is that nobody will know what you're going to do with Mew so their counter will be tricky. Basically, with a Mew, you can do anything you wish! Abilities Synchronize: is a decent ability. If Mew gets afflicted by any status condition then it bounces that condition back onto the opponent. This can work well if you believe you're about to be hit by say Will-O-Wisp, so you can switch in and damage the enemy Movesets Swords Dance - Swords Dance This set is a classic Swords Dance set. Swords Dance will boost the Attack stat for Mew and allows you to be able to physically sweep. Zen Headbutt gives decent damage and gets STAB. Drain Punch can do decent damage and potentially help Mew recover various bits of damage that have been done to it and Sucker Punch has priority Nasty Plot - Nasty Plot This set works similar to the Swords Dance set but for the Special stat, allowing you to potentially sweep with the Special stat of Mew. Nasty Plot will increase Mew's Special Attack. Psyshock has a nice effect in that it will do damage based on Mew's Special Attack stat but damage the opponent based on their Defence. Plus, it gets STAB. Aura Sphere gives Mew a powerful attack which will never miss and will cover the Dark-type weakness. Shadow Ball can provide an alternative attack to do damage with but can be substituted by Roost from Gen IV can heal Mew Stallbreaker - Taunt This is the classic Stallbreaker and Support set which capitalises on Mew's Speed and bulkineess. Taunt can prevent them from healing themselves, Will-O-Wisp can burn the opponent, halving their Attack and doing damage in each turn. Roost will allow you to do some stalling of your own and heal yourself. Finally, Psychic does decent damage, gets STAB and may lower the opponent's Special Defence Baton Pass - Baton Pass A decent Baton Pass set. As Mew can have both Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, you have the ability to easily set up any Pokémon with some decent Attack and Special Attack stat boosts. Substitute can be passed on, using Mew's high Hit Points, thus creating a decent protection for Pokémon that may be weak while Rock Polish increases Mew's Speed by two which can also be passed. Finally, Taunt can prevent opponents from Taunting this Mew itself. EVs & Natures Mew Other Options Choice, Bulk Up, Calm Mind, Counter, Reflect, Light Screen, Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Attacking Moves Double & Triple Battle Options Like in Singles, Mew can excel easily in Doubles and Triples. It gets both Surf and Earthquake which can be devastating. It has decent stats that can help it survive the various hits in the battle. It also gets the move Ally Switch, which can get you to switch your Pokémon on either side in battle to mess up opponent strategies. Transform is good for usage here and can easily Transform with some gimmicks like Shedinja or Shuckle Partners As Mew has billions of uses, it also has billions of possible partners depending on what you do with it. Pokémon that can take out Dark/Ghost-types are a must in order to protect Mew and even Psychic-types that can dominate Mew. With the Baton Pass sets, you can easily set up many decent Pokémon to be amazing instantly. It would be a waste of time listing all the possibilities. Countering Mew Countering Mew... hit hard and fast is the best idea. Pokémon such as Latios & Latias can wall Mew and do significant damage, especially if it lacks Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse. Heatran can wall Mew easily, as can Ferrothorn and frankly, most Steel-types. Choice Spiritomb can also easily cripple Mew. Many Mew are used for Support sets or Baton Passing, so a fast Taunt Pokémon can screw up the Mew easily. Deoxys is a great example of this. Specially Defensive Heatran counters most Baton Pass sets without Taunt by Roaring them away while beating stallbreaker Mew. Tyranitar and Scizor can do significant damage but won't stop a Baton Pass and hate burn. Unaware Quagsire stops the Swords Dancer and any Baton Pass set as long as the recipient doesn't run a Grass move.
